Commemorative coin

UNICEF

Official Journal of the European Union

The design shows an allegory of the work of ‘UNICEF’ where the hands are a key element. One after the other they support the globe and are the link between the different areas of the Earth. The mention of the 75th anniversary as well as the laurels crown the ensemble accompanied by the acronym RF. On the upper rim, the name ‘UNICEF’ is inserted along with the relevant dates as well as the UNICEF motto ‘For each child’. The coin’s outer ring depicts the 12 stars of the European flag.

Additional information

In 1946, the United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund (UNICEF) was founded to help children in Europe after the Second World War. Renamed the United Nations Children's Fund in 1953, the children's relief organisation today works primarily in developing countries and supports children and mothers in approximately 190 countries in the areas of health, family planning, hygiene, nutrition as well as education and provides humanitarian aid in emergency situations. The coin shows two children's hands holding a globe formed by puzzle pieces, which in turn have children's hands as connecting elements. Europe, North Africa and Greenland can be seen. At the bottom left and right, two olive tree branches are depicted as peace symbols, as they also appear in the organisation's logo.
